Hello Monday – May 11, 2020
Welcome to Hello Monday, the weekly, company-wide news show for the volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit, Blue Legacy. We were founded in 1989 to empower underrepresented storytellers, bring light to the shadows, voice to the silence, and make storytelling accessible across all mediums.
Every Monday we share all the changes, announcements, casting calls, job openings and news for our four divisions: Blue Forge Films, Blue Forge Press, Blue Forge Gaming, and Blue Forge Records.
If you are one of the 800+ artisans who work with us – an author, musician, game designer, filmmaker or actor – keeping up with Hello Monday keeps you in the loop. And you don’t have to watch: You can just listen to the episode or you can read the transcript each Monday at www.tiny.cc/hellomondayblog
My name is Jennifer DiMarco and I’m an author and filmmaker at Blue Forge. I’m also your host for today’s episode. My thanks to Faith DiMarco, the dedicated editor of Hello Monday as well as an actor and producer at Blue Forge.

The Perfect Feast of Words. The perfect Feast of Words event isn’t based on whether it’s online or in a mall. What makes a perfect Feast of Words is two things: (1) Lots of people find out about your book, game, album or film, and (2) lots of fellow artisans help each other.
At a mall, we have the public who we engage to get eyes on our work. Online, we also have the public so we make short videos talking about our work that the public will see.
At a mall, we help each other by telling the public about other artisans who are there with us and sending someone over to their table. Online, we share each other’s videos so that people who follow us will see the work of our fellows.
It’s that simple. If you’ve never shared a video before and you missed the tutorial in a previous Hello Monday, here’s that information again:
Go to www.tiny.cc/feastofwords. Pick a video you like. Click it. That will take you to the video. Click Share. Click Facebook. Click Post to Facebook.
But what if you want to make a Feast of Words video and you missed that tutorial in two previous episodes of Hello Monday? Here’s a simple three-step how to for making the perfect Feast of Words video for your book, game, film or album:
Step 1. Download the sample script at www.tiny.cc/feastscript
Step 2. Watch at least four other videos at www.tiny.cc/feastofwords
Step 3. If you have your own inventory of your work to sell:
Take your phone and turn it sideways so you’re filming yourself horizontally instead of vertically. Introduce yourself. Talk for two minutes about what the work is about. Talk for two minutes about why you love the work. Talk for one minute about the special deal you can give people – like a discount off the retail price or free shipping or that you’ll autograph the work for people. Send us that video file. We do the rest.
Step 3. If you do not have your own inventory of your work to sell:
Take your phone and turn it sideways so you’re filming yourself horizontally instead of vertically. Introduce yourself. Talk for two minutes about what the work is about. Talk for two minutes about why you love the work. Talk for one minute about why you love being a creator. Send us that video file. We do the rest.
And here are three last tips:
1. Don’t film vertically.
2. Be friendly and charming.
3. Your love for creation should come through.

May 30 Online Premiere of Sound & Silence. “For more than forty years, Riley has lived a quiet life. Maybe her mother was right: Being a black woman in America is hard enough without being gay, too. But when Roslyn auditions as a singer at the speak easy where Riley works as a bartender, Riley's entire world is turned inside out.”
On May 30, at 7pm PST, we’ll be premiering the phenomenal forty-minute film, Sound & Silence. Created by the member-owned Blue Village acting troupe, Sound & Silence is the troupe’s second film and their first online premiere as an imprint.
That’s right. Blue Forge has built and launched an online cinema for live events and film premieres – BlueFlix Cinema. These are ticketed events with online after parties where people can socialize and talk to the cast and crew.
We’ve already scheduled our first three events! Find them all and get your tickets to join us at www.tiny.cc/blueflixcinema
